Exponet brings MCEC expansion to life
Partnerships that lead to mutual success
Event: MCEC Expansion preview event
Space: Melbourne Exhibition Centre
Attendance: 348 (over 3 days)
Construction is under way on the expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), the build time for the expansion is anticipated to be a total of 18 months with the launch of the fully integrated and versatile Centre expected to be in mid 2018.
Midway through the build process, MCEC wanted to give customers, stakeholders and employees a firm idea as to what to expect from the new space when completed.
In October 2017, MCEC partnered with ExpoNet to transform the exhibition bay foyer into a life size example of the finished expansion space. The foyer was segregated into four different spaces that reflected the outdoor Courtyard, the Goldfields Café and Bar, exhibition bays and the Sovereign Room gala dining space.
ExpoNet’s creative, project management and design teams created an extraordinarily similar replication of what the venue will look like once complete, even the building’s designers – NH Architecture were amazed by the likeness. Wall patterns were recreated into stencils, sample furniture was sourced from suppliers and a sail clasped above the café and bar reflected the intricate glass ceiling which is featured in the expansion’s foyer space. The industrial exhibition bays also hosted VR headsets to allow customers to walk through their event spaces in virtual reality.
To provide customers with life like models of each space was invaluable and enabled MCEC to secure new business. Feedback from customers, stakeholders and employees was all extremely positive.
“Congratulations on the Expansion Preview Event last night. It was a fantastic insight into the quality we can expect from the new development and highlighted very exciting times ahead for MCEC and Melbourne,” said Troy Wood, Relationship Manager, Melbourne Chamber of Commerce.
“I certainly enjoyed the night. It’s always good to catch up with the industry as well as seeing what MCEC has planned for the (near) future; I really enjoyed the VR tour,” said Pedro Gallo, Operations Manager Diversified.
“As event managers ourselves, we can appreciate the level of detail that goes into planning something such as last night. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had a great time sampling the food and beverages on offer,” said Bentleigh Gibson, Event Organiser Sexpo.
“The showcase was a very positive promotion for the entire South Wharf precinct. The clients and stakeholders we met were excited and impressed with the immersive way the new products were displayed and presented,” said Michael Fletcher, Director of Sales and Marketing, Novotel Melbourne South Wharf.
