In 1996, on 14 February the doors to Melbourne Exhibition Centre were officially opened. This was the beginning of what would become MCEC, and with it, the start of a love affair between the venue, its city and all who visit it (it was Valentine’s Day after all).

The idyllic Yarra River site expanded over time to encompass a new Convention Centre in 2009. Then, in 2018 a further expansion saw a 25 per cent increase in total event space. In its 25 years, MCEC has hosted well over 20,000 international, national and local events in its combined spaces, and welcomed millions of visitors.

From trade shows, scientific symposiums and business conferences, to interactive exhibitions, major sporting events and concerts from some of the world’s leading artists; MCEC has left a lasting impression on everyone who has stepped through its doors.

But more than a building, MCEC is about people. Our people are not just the best at what they do, they’re also the best at doing things no-one else has ever done before. Together with our customers, visitors, ambassadors and community, they’re what has made MCEC home of the unconventional.
