Fun Melbourne Facts

Multicultural and loving it

It’s everywhere – in our cuisine, architecture, arts and entertainment. And certainly, our people; in fact, a third of Melburnians speak another language other than English.

Love it or hate it

Vegemite is iconic, distinctive and divisive. And it was invented right here in Melbourne. You’re welcome!

So much to explore

Our city has more than five million square metres of open space – from hidden laneways and pocket parks to our beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens.

Famous for food

Melbourne is famous for food. We have more eateries, cafés and restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the world. And the variety will astound you.
