23rd Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress
Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress
Date: 10.10.2016 to 14.10.2016
Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre
Attendance: 11,570 delegates
MCEC hosted 11,570 delegates from over 70 countries for the Intelligent Transport System World Congress (ITS 2016). The event utilised over 80 per cent of available floor space and included the venue's largest ever welcome reception, spread across 16,500 square metres in the exhibition bays.
Held for the first time in Melbourne, ITS was the result of almost 11 years of careful planning by MCEC's event team, in partnership with Melbourne Convention Bureau and ITS Australia.
The Congress was the second largest international association conference ever to be held in Melbourne, the largest of its kind hosted in Australia in 2016 and brought benefits to the local economy of more than $46.6 million, nearly twice the initial projection. The increase is attributed to the higher than anticipated attendance figures. 11,570 Australian and international delegates participated – 4500 registrations more than the target figure of 7000.
The ITS World Congress generated over 600 shifts for MCEC employees and set new benchmarks for the team. MCEC’s technology team recorded an unprecedented 80GB per hour of video content during the Congress. MCEC’s culinary team spent more than 2600 hours preparing and serving meals for over 6000 delegates over the course of the event, and operated six themed cooking stations each day.
A 2.5 hour welcome cocktail function for 2500 guests was held within the main exhibition space. A custom menu with nine pass around items and two interactive stations was offered and the beverage package consisted of quality Victorian beers, ciders and wines.
