Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) Acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Narrm, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and to Elders of all First Nations communities that visit MCEC.

We’re taking a break! Our office is closed 21 December – 5 January, but the fun continues.

5 Top Tips for Planning a Perfect Business Event

A handy five-point checklist for ensuring your next small-scale business event or meeting is the best it can be.

When it comes to planning epic events, size really doesn’t matter. Learn how to make your next meeting or business event one to remember with our handy five-point checklist for planning the perfect business event.

1. Dress Code

A relaxed dress code can make all the difference when it comes to setting the tone. While there’s a time and a place for more formal wear, inviting guests to dress in clothes they’re comfortable and happy in can be a great way to encourage authentic connection and interaction.

2. Space

Choosing the right space is an essential first step in your event planning journey. Consider size, temperature, air flow and seating options to ensure your guests are as comfortable as possible.

3. Movement

Wherever possible, give your guests the option to stand up, move around – even change rooms. Being confined to a seat for long periods of time is a sure-fire energy sapper and regular movement will keep attendees alert and energised and encourage interaction between different individuals and groups.

4. Food & Drink

We all know it’s impossible to concentrate on an empty stomach, so make sure your guests have easy access to nourishing, appealing food and drink throughout the meeting. Regular snacking also helps avoid the after-lunch-slump.

5. Interaction

No one enjoys being lectured at for hours on end, so try to keep presentations interactive and dynamic. Keep slideshows light on text and use interesting imagery, music and movement to engage and inspire your audience.
