MCEC Officially Joins The Food Fight
As part of MCEC’s commitment to minimising food waste and creating positive community impact, we are thrilled to announce the confirmation of an official partnership agreement with Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, OzHarvest.
While MCEC has actively supported OzHarvest since 2014 through food donations and workplace giving, this new partnership agreement will see MCEC donate more than $100k in kind through resource and service provision.
As part of the working partnership, OzHarvest will occupy a dedicated space in the MCEC kitchens to run its popular ‘Cooking For A Cause’ program (CFAC). The program invites corporate groups and organisations to participate in a zero-waste cooking masterclass with OzHarvest chefs, creating and packaging nutritious meals for distribution within vulnerable communities. We will also continue to support OzHarvest through food donations, fundraising and advocacy.
Chief Executive MCEC Peter King said it is the ideal partnership for the organisation.
“Globally, one third of all edible food produced is thrown in the bin, and with one in every nine Australian’s unsure where their next meal is coming from, OzHarvest and their goals are relevant to all of us as a community.”
“At MCEC we are passionate about sustainability and being community-minded, and we completely align with what they are working to achieve.”
“The events industry can contribute a lot of food waste, so this is the perfect way to try and reverse that cycle and give back to those in Melbourne who need it most.”
